St Andrew’s is a grade two pipe
band based in Brisbane, Australia. It was formed from members of the 61st
Battalion, Queensland Cameron Highlanders at the end of the Second World War in
1945. The Battalion had strong Scottish connections and the band was formed for
the purpose of maintaining Scottish Culture and camaraderie amongst the
Ex-Servicemen.
Within a few years of
formation the band won the Australian Pipe Band Championships and since then has
successfully competed in many major competitions, both locally and abroad. The
Band is also a regular participant in major community events, such as Anzac Day,
Tartan Day, the RNA Show and the Ipswich International Tattoo.
Today St Andrew’s is a
successful competition band with around 40 playing members. The band continues
to compete and perform regularly, fostering traditional Scottish cultural in the
Brisbane region.
